We spent most of the summer exploring the eastern side of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Port Townsend and Dosewallips were two of our favorite areas.
In our continuing desire to scope out the northeastern corner of the Olympic Peninsula for a future home base, we’ve spent some time in Port Townsend. The town has long been one of our favorites, from childhood for me and as an adult for Brian. We love the community and small-town vibe. We love that it’s on the water and gets far less rain and far more sunshine than many areas of western Washington. We love that we can get to great hikes in the Olympic National Forest easily, drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours and be at the coast, or take a short ferry ride to visit friends and family in the greater Seattle area.
We’ve explore all over the eastern side of the Olympics and we both agree that the closer we are to Port Townsend, the happier we’re probably going to be. So next year, we hope to start looking at property. Wish us luck!
I only have one good pic from all of our visits to Port Townsend. Why? Because we were having too much fun exploring and visiting (responsibly) with friends. I’ll try to get more before we head south again.
The Dosewallips River and State Park area is naturally beautiful and abundant with shellfish. It’s not an area we want to live in because it’s too far to get to friends and family, but it’s certainly a wonderful place to visit. We can see why the area has so many cabins and vacation homes.
Health-wise, we’re getting a little better at our keto eating and taking walks. I’m doing Qi Gong and Tai Chi, as well as some mild weight-lifting, most mornings.
Plant medicine-making has slowed down a bit. I don’t have the space for anything more. The lotion bars were successful, though a bit hard when it’s below 70 degrees. I tried a new batch with some essential oils and a softer blend and will see how the feedback goes for those.
I’ve decided less writing and more photography is in my future. That’s part of the reason you see so many Instagram embeds here. I’ve also ordered a lens set for my cell phone and am going to do my best to go through the photography course I signed up for ages ago.
